Second lesson of Human Communication : Perception

Today I learnt about Perception which is the impression that others give you and what you project to others. The similarity of communication and perception is they are both involved in communication.

I learnt the process of perception.  Sensory stimulation occurs, which is First stage, the sense organs are stimulated ; taste a slice of pizza. You perceived something meaningful and not perceiving what is not meaningful. Besides that, the Second stage, Sensory stimulation is organised according to various principles. Furthermore, the Third stage, Sensory stimulation is interpreted-evaluated. Interpretations-evaluations are not based solely on the external stimulus. May be based on your past experience, needs, wants, value systems, emotional state, expectation and so on.

Lecture showed us a few pic and ask us what we see, what is our perception.

There are also 5 processes influencing perception :
1. Implicit personality theory
2. The self-fulfilling prophecy
3. Primacy- recency
4. Consistency
5. Attribution

Halo effect.
-you have your own opinion about someone's characteristics.

    Reverse halo effect.
                 -individuals who have bad traits.

Pygmalion effect.
    - Which one make prediction and then proceeds to fulfill it.

Primacy-recency.
-Use early information to provide yourself with a general idea of what a person is like

Consistency.
-People have a strong tendency to maintain balance or consistency among
perceptions.

Attribution.
-The process through which you try discover why people do what they do and even why you do what you do.

That's all for today :)))

Throwback to the first lesson of Human Communication. Chapter 1 : Foundation Of Human Communication :)

The first lesson of Human Communication. I found quite interesting in this subject. Because I get to know that how we communicate with each other. There are 5 main forms of communication, Small Group Communication which is solving problems, Intrapersonal Communication which is talk to ourself, Public Communication which is inform and persuade such as opinion , Interpersonal Communication which is making decision and Mass Communication which is entertained, informed and persuaded by media. I'm leading to degree in Mass Communication so I think I will like this subject? haha

Besides that, I learnt Culture and human communication too. On that class I knew that different country have different culture. In class, there are Myanmar and Bangladesh student give example on their countries's culture. Furthermore, I learnt that there are 4 communication context, Social Psychological Context, Physical Context, Cultural Context and Temporal Context.

Source-receiver, Messages, Feedback&feedforward, Channels, Noise and effects known as Components. The most impressive part is actually bad handwriting also known as physical noise! HAHA. And also Feedback and Feedforward. Feedforward is a pretext to the context. hmmm.. something like " a trailer " ? But its not a movie trailer, its trailer before the context? haha I don't know how but i understand it HAHA

There are also 4 channel: Vocal channel ; spoken words , Visual channel ; body  language , Olfactory channel ; smell and Tactile channel ; touch.

Yeaaa, I think thats what I've learnt in Chapter 1 :)))
